blast before holidays

Last December 9, 2014 on a Tuesday late afternoon, a Rural Transit Bus stopped in front of Central Mindanao University in Bukidnon Philippines to pick up some passengers, and then went again on its way to Cagayan de Oro. Barely a few minutes after taking off again, a bomb exploded inside the vehicle.

Because it was a school day, a lot of students witnessed the incident and so did some civilians who were just going about with their business, as shown in this footage.

There were more or less 10 who died in the incident and about 40 injured. According to some articles, it stated that there were 11 dead and 50 injured. More or less people were affected when the blast happened.

I cannot begin to imagine how the families of these people who lost their lives could be feeling right now in this moment or back then when they heard the news because of such tragic incident. That those who have lost the ones whom they missed and waited for at home. Most of them were only 17 and just finished a day of school not knowing that on their way home, maybe excited for Chrismas break, that they wouldn’t even be there to witness it all happen nor see their families again.

The authorities, as to what I have read and heard of have not yet announced the suspect or the ones behind the crime.

Because of this tragic incident, the students of the Central Mindanao University, near where the incident happened and where the students who were victims went to school to, conducted a ceremony for the ones whom were deceased, as well for all whom were there injured or affected when the explosion happened.

Famlies of those who lost their loved ones recieved cash that amounted to 500,000 Php for their loss, through the different activities that were held to pay respects to the victims of the incident.
That to me, recieving cash as to what had happened, is to be considered as nothing but cheap bargain to the feeling of loss or the fact of the loss itself and to the person who was taken away from them, even though it’s not what it’s supposed to be but it feels like it. Its not that it is wrong or anything, it is just not enough. Although it might be holiday season but it would still hurt none the less. This, again, is based only, truely, on my own opinion, no harm intended.

Although no one really knew anything like that would happen, not alone expect it or even imagine that it would right then and there because no one can really predict the future nor the present. It was planned, yes, by some terrorists maybe but none the less, it still happened and we cannot do anything about it. It happened before the holidays, most of us are pumped by that time because Christmas is just around the corner and the new year comes after. Some of the victims could have been buying or just bought gifts for their loved ones or just wanted to be home. Then again, it happened. Just like that, just as the bus started to leave, just as everyone had settled down, it happened. And its not the first time it did.

Basically out of all this, all I can conclude is that make the most out of everything and out of everyone. It does not happen merely on a bus ride home, or somewhere but it may happen anywhere, on your daily exersice, while your eating, talking to your friend, or even while you’re reading right now, it could happen, your life could end. Right. Now.

But its not. You’re still reading. So continue reading. Not just this, but other blogs, other news, other kinds of reading materials. Finish school. Do your job. Be happy. Live. Hug your family, tell them you love them. Have no regrets. Life ends when we least expect it to. Its the new year, make it worth it.

  1. Its unfortunate that some people have lost their lives like that. Terrorists have already evolved to different tactics on promoting terror on innocent lives. I have also read on another article that featured an explosion similar to that but at another place also in the Philippines. This was so inspirational.

  2. Agreed. We all should difinitely cherish the moment while we’re still at it. Just like this one, death came unexpectedly. Its just so sad to think that everything that there is has its limit, especially our lives. ESPECIALLY OUR LIVES. “You Only Live Once” as they say.

This is so true. It is sad though it is a reality that many face. What has happened cannot be changed therefore we must act as if what we are doing will be the last time. :3 The essay was nicely written, I compliment you for that. 🙂

The essay was well written and that i agree with what the writer said. That we should cherish our lives every single day and say what we have to say, cause the future is unpredictable and we might just die tomorrow regretting things. So we should live like its our last and live life to the fullest. 🙂

  5. I have a friend that’s going to school at CMU in the near future and this makes me worry. I know Bukidnon isn’t the only place that something like this could happen but it still sucks to know that my loved ones could be taken from me simply by being an unfortunate casualty of a terrorist attack. And it’s worse knowing that I’m nowhere near those dearest to me. So basically, cherish your loved ones. Do your best to keep them safe. Help (even in the most infinitesimal way) in fighting to get rid of terrorism.

Live the life to the fullest cause you’ll never know what will happened next. Wonderful blog max 🙂 Its kinda sad to know that there are still people who do such cruelty, and I felt sorry for those who died because of the bombing. But yeah, justice will prevail, lets just pray for them 🙂

I totally agree. But there are always two sides of a coin. These rebels have always been marginlized man sad but it does not justify the bombing that happened in CMU. The Government has to find ways to get rid of the rebel movement and the best way to do that is to make the rebels realize that the Government exists to cater the needs of it’s constituents and the rebels are indeed a part of it. But not as far as to legitimize their crimes. If we start to hear them out and include them in decision-making, it’s one way of satisfying these people and in due time, all those rebels would cease to exist. It’s a big leap of faith, but the fruits are bountiful.

    It’s a great essay bai.

  8. Neat article and well informed 🙂 I just hope that this was given more attention to lessen the problem and create more actions that could help keep the people in the area in safer conditions even when the said area is vulnerable to terrorists’ attacks. I’m glad enough that it was given recognition by the media of the losses but should have received more support to what was given. I pray for the right justice to be given soon to the families who had lost.

I can’t even think about the pain the families are going through… It’s sad to think of how reality can be changed just like that. Imagine if you knew one of those people on the bus and were on the phone with them, just to assure yourself that they were safe from any kind of danger that would’ve likely happened to them.. But minutes later, the bomb went off.. Loosing those you love when you trust that they are fine is one of those things that can scar someone for life.

It’s great that you wrote something on this. It reminds us of how precious time really is because there is always a chance that either you or them will be gone in seconds.

It’s always going to be like that, people will always give compensation for what we’ve lost, even to ourselves as we speak, and it’s a little insane don’t you think? (am not gonna use profanity) that it’s that easy to replace someone by the means of money, not to the families of course but to the ones who gave the compensation (but, yeah, it was done throughout activities that showed importance to them, so I can’t really put any unreasonable thoughts against it). I do agree about it being “cheap bargain” money will never compensate the feeling of lost for someone. Okay, so yeah these kinds of blog needs to be seen more, for it makes us aware of news, facts, data, and such, well, I’m just me leaving a comment, don’t really know every single drop of facts for the said topic.

Life is God’s gift and only God can take it. It’s sad to think that people try to kill each other when we can live together in peace. I mean what can you actually gain for killing a person? Is it because you want revenge? Then what?
We are so attached to worldy things that we forget the purpose of living. To love and care for others.

Well, It’s really a sad thing to hear or to know that you’re fellow people died because of a very tragic incident. We all know that bombing is one of the works of the terrorists in our country that really made us feel that the security of our country is not that good. We feel so unsafe that we came in to this paranoia that we might be also bombed in any places that we go in our country, especially in that particular area. I may be from Bukidnon before but it made me think that it’s not safe for me to travel there again. But for now, I still pray that it wouldn’t happen again.

By the way, your article was good. 🙂 Keep it up Max 🙂
